Estropipate vaginal cream is used to treat vaginal soreness, dryness, and irritation that may occur during menopause. This medication is sometimes prescribed for other uses; ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information.
Before using estropipate vaginal cream: - Ask your pharmacist or doctor for a copy of the manufacturer's product information for the patient.
- Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding. Estropipate vaginal cream should NOT be used if you are pregnant.
- Tell your doctor if you are allergic to estropipate or any other drugs.
- Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other prescription or non-prescription medications.
- Tell your doctor if you have or have ever had endometrial cancer, abnormal vaginal bleeding with an unknown reason, or any blood disorders.
- Tell your doctor if you have or have ever had breast lumps or cancer; high blood pressure; high blood cholesterol and fats; diabetes; asthma; a history of stroke, blood clots, toxemia (high blood pressure during pregnancy), or heart attack; epilepsy (seizures); migraine headaches; a history of depression; bone, liver, heart, gallbladder, or kidney disease; jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes); genital bleeding; or excessive weight gain and fluid retention (bloating) during the menstrual cycle.
Estropipate vaginal comes as a cream to be inserted in the vagina. It is usually used once daily. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Use estropipate vaginal cream exactly as directed. Do not use more or less of it or use it more often than prescribed by your doctor. Do not stop using estropipate vaginal cream without talking to your doctor.Estropipate vaginal cream comes with a special applicator. Read the instructions provided with it and follow these steps: 1. Remove the cap from the tube.
2. Make sure plunger of applicator is all the way into the barrel.
3. Screw nozzle end of applicator onto the tube.
4. Squeeze tube to force cream into applicator so that the number on the plunger indicating the prescribed dose is level with the top of the barrel.
5. Unscrew applicator from tube and replace the cap on the tube.
6. Gently insert the applicator into your vagina and push the plunger all the way down to release the medication.
7. Pull the plunger out of the barrel and wash applicator with soap and warm water.
8. Wash your hands promptly.
Use the missed dose as soon as you remember it. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not use a double dose to make up for a missed one.
Common side effects of estradiol include: - Headache
- Vaginal spotting
- Vaginal discharge
- Rash
- Abdominal pain
- Back pain
- Vaginal itching
- Upper respiratory infection
- Yeast-like vaginal infection
- Breast tenderness and/oror enlargement
If you experience any of the following symptoms, call your doctor immediately: - unusual vaginal bleeding
- calf muscle pain
- crushing chest pain or chest heaviness
- coughing up blood
- sudden, severe headache
- sudden, severe vomiting
- dizziness or faintness
- sudden partial or complete loss of vision
- speech problems
- weakness or numbness of an arm or leg
- severe stomach pain
- yellowing of the skin or eyes
Keep this medication in the packaging it came in and out of the reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from excessive heat. Talk to your pharmacist about the proper disposal of your medication.
